> I met Quinn at an EA picnic in Brooklyn and he was wearing a shirt that I remembered as saying "I donated my kidney to a stranger and I didn't even get this t-shirt." It actually said "and all I got was this t-shirt," which isn't as funny.

Yooooo I made Quinn that t-shirt! Im excited for the shoutout

You are a very special person Ms Molly. I’ll say it again here: this is a beautifully candid sharing of several crossroads in your life. The tone is just right: you have a distinctive narrative voice that is informal, demonstrates empathy for the reader, and gives a steady thoughtful touch to a complex subject. Well done.

This is an incredible story, thank you for sharing! I've never donated (aside from a great deal of blood) but it's fascinating to hear about, and incredibly admirable that you thought through the costs and benefits and opted to realize this mitzvah for several perfect strangers. Thank you for your service!

P.s. the phrase "twist of the knife" really aptly describes the feeling of wrangling with bills and insurance amidst a health crisis. That is one part I can absolutely empathize with. Oh and with doctors and nurses dismissing my wife's or kids', serious problems as "nothing to worry about, it'll go away on its own" when nope, they turned out serious. I'm glad to hear Giulio advocated for you to get the care you really needed, and it's infuriating how often that is necessary (but also understandable when healthcare providers must make judgment calls in the face of many false positives...).
